Series 3 - Grand Staff Prep Learning Materials

This page provides direct links
for viewing and downloading
the learning materials of our
Grand Staff Prep Series.

You will find the links to these materials - instructions, exercises, and pieces - at the end (bottom) of this page
This series supplements the vertically oriented key diagrams that students have learned to play from.
It is designed to help students begin learning to read from the grand staff with a minimum of difficulty and stress. Notes are placed on the grand staff but the rhythm continues to be notated on a timeline.
We find it helpful to supplement these materials with published large-note song collections that have the letter names inside of the notes but with the rhythm notated in the traditional way. We also find it helpful to emphasize the learning of the note names with the use of flash cards and with note naming games that can be found on the internet.
